Comprising the eastern half of the island of New Guinea and the offshore islands of Melanesia, Papua New Guinea is not your usual travel destination. It does not offer the comforts and amenities travelers are used to. It is a back-to-the basics travel destination that will be perfect for intrepid travelers and those who are in search of off-the-beaten-track places that are still untouched by modern trappings.

With a total population of 7.4 million as of 2014, Papua New Guinea is one of the least densely populated countries in the world. It has a no world-class tourism infrastructures and with limited information available, it is no wonder that tourist arrival in 2013 was only 174,000.  Jacksons International Airport located in the capital city of Port Moresby is your gateway to Papua New Guinea. It is served by international carriers and is the main hub of Air Niugini, the national airline of the country.

A relaxing and serene place right in Port Moresby, the National Orchid Garden must be one of your stops. It will impress you with its collections of orchids. Located 20 kilometers from Port Moresby, Loloata Island Resort is where you can enjoy snorkeling, fishing and kayaking. It is a paradise for scuba divers as it has around 30 dive sites. Belonging to the Koitabu tribe, the Hanuabada Village is one of only two remaining stilt villages in the city. Visiting the village is great way to learn more about the culture and heritage of Papua New Guinea.

Port Moresby is only the tip of the iceberg. There are so many places to discover and explore in Papua New Guinea. Fly now and welcome the call of the unknown!
