LOCATION, HISTORY & RELEVANCE

Stonehenge is located near Salisbury in the beautiful Wilshire countryside in the U.K. It is a prehistoric monument consisting of the remains of a ring of standing dolerite stones set within the earth, and sits in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several burial mounds. Archaeologists believe it was built anywhere from 3,000 to 2,000 B.C. while the surrounding circular earth bank and ditch which constitute the earliest phase of the monument has been dated back to about 3,100 B.C.
