It’s not just about where you go. It’s about how you experience the journey.
After more than 30 plus years in the travel industry, I’ve learned that the most memorable holidays are rarely just about the destinations. They’re about how you feel while you’re travelling, the experiences you share, the people you meet and those little moments that stay with you long after you return home.
For me, that is cruising on a luxury cruise.
There is something special about stepping aboard a state-of-the-art ship, being greeted by a wonderful crew, settling into your oceanview suite and knowing that all the details have been taken care of. Not constantly packing and unpacking, no worrying about how you’ll get from one destination to the next, and no need to plan every meal or activity. Instead, you can relax, explore, and genuinely enjoy the experience.
It’s the Little Things That Make the Biggest Difference
What I love about luxury cruising is the attention to detail. It’s the feeling of being welcomed back by crew who remember you, enjoying a leisurely lunch with a beautiful ocean view, or discovering that perfect spot on deck to watch the sunset with a glass of wine.
It’s having choices without feeling overwhelmed. Perhaps tonight you feel like an elegant dinner with impeccable service, while tomorrow calls for something more casual. You can spend the day exploring a fascinating city or simply stay aboard and enjoy the peace and quiet.
These may seem like small things, but together they create a very different kind of holiday.
I particularly love how cruising allows you to combine several destinations into one seamless journey. You can experience different cultures, cuisines and landscapes while still having the pleasure of returning to a familiar suite at the end of the day.
And on a sea day? That’s an invitation to slow down, enjoy the ship and remember that you’re on holiday. You can do as much as you like or nothing at all!
Dining Becomes Part of the Experience
For those of us who appreciate good food and wine, luxury cruising can be a real pleasure. Dining is not simply something to fit between sightseeing and the next activity; it becomes an experience in itself.
Beautifully prepared cuisine, interesting menus, attentive service and a choice of dining venues all add to the enjoyment. Being able to dine in a Michelin rated restaurant without a 2 year waitlist… There are celebrity chefs and test kitchens – and the Luxury Lines include the specialty dining – so no surprise bill at the end.
Service That Lets You Truly Relax
To me, one of the defining differences in luxury travel is service. It’s not about being waited on every minute; it’s about having thoughtful, attentive people who make everything feel effortless.
A fond memory of Luxury Cruising was mentioning to the Cabin attendant that I loved caviar – I had attended an event earlier in the day and said how much I had enjoyed it – That evening there was caviar in my stateroom along with a bottle of champagne – all supplied without even asking – just the wonderful attentive staff knowing it would be appreciated.
When service is done well, you hardly notice the work behind it. Things simply happen as they should. You feel comfortable, looked after and free to enjoy yourself.
That is particularly valuable when travelling to unfamiliar destinations. Knowing that many of the arrangements have been taken care of allows you to focus on the experience rather than the logistics.
Is Luxury Cruising Worth It?
I’m often reminded that luxury means different things to different people. For some, it’s a spacious suite and a private veranda. For others, it’s outstanding food, enriching excursions, a smaller ship or the ability to visit places that would be difficult to explore independently.
When comparing luxury cruise lines, I always encourage travellers to look beyond the initial fare. Consider what is included, the quality of the experience, the itinerary, the accommodation and the little extras that can make a meaningful difference. Inclusions vary, but the right cruise can offer a wonderful balance of comfort, discovery and convenience.
Luxury cruising isn't about having more of everything. It's about having the right things, thoughtfully delivered.
Why I Love Helping People Discover Luxury Cruising
After more than three decades of planning holidays for my clients, one of the most rewarding parts of my work is matching people with the right travel experience. No two travellers are alike, and no single cruise line is perfect for everyone.
Some clients want the finest dining and an elegant onboard atmosphere. Others want immersive cultural experiences, extraordinary scenery or a smaller ship that can reach more intimate ports. My role is to understand what matters most to you and help you find the experience that fits.
Because when the ship, itinerary and style of travel are right, the difference is remarkable.
You return home with more than photographs. You return with memories of wonderful meals, unexpected discoveries, special moments and the feeling that you truly enjoyed every part of the journey.
For me, that is the real luxury of cruising.
The world is waiting. Let's find your way to experience it.
With over 30 plus years of travel experience, I would love to help you discover a luxury cruise that is perfectly suited to you. Because your world should be experienced your way.
