The Temple of Preah Vihear in Cambodia

The temple of Preah Vihear is located on the edge of a plateau that dominates the plain of Cambodia. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva of the Hindu Religion. The temple comprises a series of sanctuaries that are linked by an elaborate system of pavements and stair cases over an 800 meter long axis. The axis dates back to the early 11th century AD.

The temples complex story is traced to the 9th century when it was actually founded. Due to its remote location, the site has been preserved quite well and is a place of exceptional architectural quality. The architecture has been adapted to the natural environment as well as to its religious functions

The harmony that was achieved between the nature and the temple is typical of most Buddhism and Hindu monasteries and temples.
