Pioneers Camp - Zambezi River, Victoria Falls

Posted by Liz · in Zambezia Province · about Adventure

Pioneers Camp is an intimate, beautifully appointed, tented camp. It is located inside the Zambezi National Park, on a lovely quiet stretch of Zambezi River shoreline with a natural spring-line, Mpala Jena, running through the site.

Pioneers were the forefront of modern day explorers, discovering new lands, navigating rivers and eventually settling in areas of great importance or beauty. Along one such journey, following the Zambezi River, people stopped along the riverbank to rest, perhaps explore inland a little, and likely enjoy the beauty of the area. Pioneers Camp is located in such a place – just 17km upstream from Victoria Falls…..in the heart of the national park.

Set under large, shady trees, along the shores of the Zambezi River – Pioneers Camp offers a beautiful setting to relax and enjoy the wilderness, peace and beauty of the Zambezi National Park, on a lovely quiet stretch of Zambezi River shoreline with a natural spring-line, Mpala Jena, running through the site. This spring-line attracts an abundance of wildlife throughout the year. It’s conveniently located close to Victoria Falls – for easy access – but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the busy town.

This intimate camp has only six luxury tents, well-appointed and nestled under shady trees – each bragging breath-taking views of the river. Each tent has a private verandah overlooking the river. There is a central dining and lounge area to mingle and relax in. The camp is eco-friendly, with modern solar lighting, solar geysers for showers, flushing toilets and efficient and correct waste disposal.

Meals are prepared from a selection of fresh produce, and are served either al fresco, or in our shady dining tent overlooking the river.

Your comfort and enjoyment is our prime concern and our dedicated team will look after your every whim.

When to go to Pioneers
The camp is open all year round, and each season has different attractions. The summer months (October–April) offer migratory birds, ‘baby’ animals, excellent fishing, and great photography with the bush greening up and set off by incredible skies. The winter months are traditionally better for game viewing as its drier and cooler, with better visibility through the bush.

All activities are run with our professionally trained guides. From this intimate camp you will be able to enjoy both night and day-time game drives, boat cruises (sunset or morning), canoeing, fishing, and we can also arrange a walking safari for you.

Pioneers is available either on a fully inclusive basis – including activities and drinks, or full board with activities and drinks extra – which is good for people in their own vehicles.
