List of top Copenhagen family venues:
The zoo is located in Frederiksberg, near the heart of Copenhagen and contains every kind of animal from small birds to elephants. The zoo features various environments—tropical, nocturnal, African savannah and South American pampas—to cater to the 3,500 animals of 250 different species which it is home to. Here, you can also see the feeding of lions and other creatures, and get close to baby animals. There is also a Children’s Zoo where the kids can play with animals and ride a pony.
The Blue Planet – Denmark’s Aquarium
The Blue Planet is Northern Europe’s largest aquarium, home to more than 20,000 fish and marine animals from all over the world, which live in warm and cold, fresh and saltwater environments. Here you will see Europe’s largest school of piranhas, sea-lions, sharks and a range of other creatures. They also have a range of daily programs and events apart from just viewing the animals, which adds to the whole package.
Tivoli Gardens opened in 1843 and has been enchanting visitors since then. It is located right in the heart of Copenhagen and is like a small fairy tale village. Here you’ll find everything from roller coasters to theatres, gourmet restaurants, bars, cafés and outdoor stages where internationals stars perform. In Christmas, Tivoli is transformed into a winter fairyland with ice skating available.
Dyrehavsbakken, or Bakken for short is presumably the oldest amusement park in the world. In 1583 Kirsten Piil found a spring right in that location, drawing people from near and far. Jesters came about to entertain the mass of people, and that’s how it all began. Here, you will find rides, games, live music, dancing and restaurants. Dyrehavsbakken is also a recreational area with a royal deer park established by the king in 1669. Here you can enjoy a day surrounded by nature, and it is also where the Hubertus hunt is held in the beginning of November.
Ripley’s owns and operates the Ripleys Believe It or Not! Museum, the Guinness World Records Museum, The Mystic Exploratorie and The World of Hans Christian Andersen. Each of these places offers you something different and unique to enjoy with the family, with thousands of unique exhibits and entertaining experiences.
This museum has a hand-on approach to science. You will not only be using your hands but all of your senses as you and your family participate in some 300 exhibitions and demonstrations, divided into three themes: Humans, Nature and The Interaction Between Humans and Nature. You will get to hear what the various languages of the world sound like, visit a slimming machine and make a wind machine blow up to hurricane speed. This place provides a fun and educational experience for you and your whole family.
Tycho Brahe Planetarium
The planetarium is named after the astronomer Tycho Brahe, and has an IMAX theatre, as well as a star projector, which can show 4,000 stars, the sun and the various planets of our solar system. Take the family here for an educational—yet entertaining—experience pertaining to space and our solar system.
